I got the scuba bug when I had to learn how to use a tank and regulator to film an underwater car-crash scene for a TV pilot. Now I’m not an advanced certified diver, and I’ve been on scuba trips to Malta, Egypt’s Red Sea, St. Lucia, and Indonesia.

I love how diving focuses your mind and body. You have to concentrate on your breathing and stay calm. Sometimes you do have moments of fear. In Malta, I went shipwreck-diving to a sunken World War II vessel. To see the ship emerge from the murkiness was quite eerie.

Diving is like a safari: There’s a checklist of animals you hope to see. I had always wanted to see a sea turtle - it was my unicorn. This past Christmas in Indonesia, I saw five on my first dive! Now I want to see a shark. - [on diving for Marie Claire]
