Beyond Salvation (Loki/Sigyn)

Summary: Nothing will be the same after Balder’s death.
Rating: PG, mention of death
Author’s Notes: Just a little drabble I wrote a while back in answer to a writing prompt. More aligned with the actual Norse mythology, but it could be set in the same setting as Marvelverse’s The Trials of Loki if you squint.

Frickin awesome Loki/Sigyn art. Spoilers for the end of The Avengers!

iamladyloki:

I’m putting it under a read more instead of just linking the actual picture since there are still people who don’t want to be spoiled. :)

(Obviously Sigyn was just added since the person ships them. They are another OTP of mine.)

It grieved Thor to tell Sigyn of Loki’s passing almost as much as it grieved her to hear it. She listened as if from a great distance away, silent and bereaved, but also confused. How could this have happened? Sigyn had known a Loki that was mischievous, yes, and a troublemaker, but also kind and loving, who as a boy had once helped untangle her from a tree in the All-Father’s grove after her hair had gotten caught in the branches. "We will mourn for him," Thor said, meaning that boy, not the man that had chosen death over reconciliation. She closed her eyes, nodding slowly. Still her lips trembled with the words, I don’t know how to mourn him. I only ever knew how to love him.

Loki coveted her smile, knowing it was for him alone, a fugitive from the glow of the golden son.

Loki/Sigyn
WWII
He was amazed that through the stench of gunpowder, blood, bandages, and the aging coffee from the mug on the charge nurse’s desk, he could detect the faint ribbons of her scent: fresh oranges and some effervescent note that was uniquely hers and a remnant of their days in Asgard.
Loki pushed through the crowd of visitors in the ward of the hospital in Grandvilliers, his Ground Captain’s silver bars earning him almost as many stares as the piercing look in his pale eyes as he moved to stand beside the nurse treating one of his men before he was to be shipped home, the god’s heart thundering to have found her once more.
Sigyn shivered delicately at the unmistakable chill of her former husband as he drew up next to her, her patient never seeing the hand that settled possessively on her lower spine, his palm cool through her white uniform as he said softly, almost brokenly, “Sigyn…”

"With all due respect, Director Fury, you have no idea what I’m willing to do to protect him. I have compassion for this world, it’s true, and no desire to challenge your Midgardian warriors, but do not think I will stand idly by and allow you to murder my prince.” “Loyalty is an admirable trait, Lady Sigyn, but dangerous when allied with the wrong person. Consider this a professional courtesy. At the end of the day, we’re both after the same thing here, to see Loki stopped.” “I want to save him. You would seek to destroy him. No, Director Fury. We’re not. And I caution you to remember it.”Scenes I’d Like to See in The Avengers | Sigyn confronts Fury in Loki’s defense
